Compositional studies - Bloodsports 8

Comps for Bloodsports 8
This is a summary of the work done to prepare composition.  I pretty much threw out the first couple straight away (back turned) and went with the Rembrandt composition .  I also tried to keep the same colour pallet.

Face study-after Rembrandt

After Rembrandt - Photoshop study
after rembrandt

I had seen this image recently and I had hit on the idea of having the Maxx Marnsden character as a bit despondent.  This image is all about that - regret and sadness.  I wanted to do the face study to capture that.

Interior study 1 Airport interior

airport interior
Airport interior -Photoshop study
This is one of the first interior studies I have done.  The reference was of from an  airport (Dubai I think).  The big challenge with these is perspective.  I don't think you can get away fudging on that.

figure study - Bloodsports 8

Suit - photoshop study

After settling on the theme of Maxx Marnsden for the Bloodsports 8 challenge I was still mulling approaches.  Even without this I knew I would need some astronaut stuff.  While searching through images I came across some describing the suiting up process.  This is the undergarment worn.  It is interesting as you can still see the flesh colour below the suit.

Figure studies -1-watercolour

Full Figure 1
Full Figure 2

This was some figure drawing practice .  I also  wanted to have some watercolour practice.  This was the first time I tried watercolours.  I had previously tried watercolour pencils.  The paints are harder as you have to control edges.  The watercolours will take practice as you have to work light to dark.  What they would undoubtedly do is make me more disciplined as you have to have a plan before you start.   I repeated the same study the next day with a slightly different approach. The reference was from Inspirational Artworks.  There are an unbelievable number of anatomy learning tools available there.

Still Here

A year since my last post here but that does not mean I have forgotten.  I stop by from time to time and this still remains the most compr...
