Hand Study

Hand study

Yip I am still trying to keep some studies going.  I have kept sketching with pencil and paper.  The majority of this kind of work I get done at lunchtime.  Here are some hand studies.  I plan to make my way through Loomis for the remainder of the Summer.

Flight

Flight

This began as a bit of doodle and grew and grew.  I knew i wanted to do something with a lighter palate and this was as good a subject as any.

I had all the basic stuff down reasonably quickly but the rendering and detailing well that took way longer.  Things definitely got more static as I rendered it further.  It is still a shock how long it is taking me to get to a point where a piece looks finished.  I think if I focus more and have a clearer idea of what I need to get too it would go faster.  On the other hand I am trying to learn as i go so lots of mistakes.

Armoured soldier

Some stuff seems to reasonably easy ans fast and some stuff well, it is just hard.  Here is an image I have been tossing and turning for over a month now.  It has gone thought alot of iterations.  What I thought was going to be something relatively simple has become an epic. It was supposed to be a study application, just all those machine studies applied in some way.  So  a mech of some type scaling a hill, no an armoured soldier, a hill well maybe not ....

Played with some armour.

 Abandoned that then thought about
environment a bit more

And then decided no not happy with it >>>

Soap bottle study

Soapbottle study
This is a study of a soap bottle I did on my lunch break. About 40 minutes effort.  Last still life was the parachute guy back at the start of June. I wanted to bring some of the work I am doing to a higher level of finish.  That has proven to take a lot of time and unfortunetly I have a liited amount of time available for this so in the past month studies have taken a back seat.

Portrait practice 4

Portrait Practice 4

Changed up my process on this one.  I used just a hard round brush and went to town.  Even though I kept the brush small I finished this in about 3 hours or so. Probably a shorter time than if I went to complete using some of the other approaches I have used.  The reference is from National Geographic a great resource.

Still Here

A year since my last post here but that does not mean I have forgotten.  I stop by from time to time and this still remains the most compr...
