Trees 2 Landscape study

Trees 2 Landscape study
Another landscape study.  Trying to practice a process.  Study was of a photo I took in Yellowstone park a few years ago.  Weather looks great in real contrast to the lashing rain and gale force winds (floods predicted)  we are experiencing for our June bank holiday.

Canyon Study

Canyon Study
Another landscape study.  Used the same kind of techniques as last time.  With the limited palette trying to sell the perspective.

Image was from a screenshot.

Playground Study

Playground Study

Back to studies.  This study was done using the power of the lasso tool.  Not something I use all that often but will try and do a few more of these.

Balanced

Balanced

Started out as a creature.  Added the rider and then included the environment.  Probably suffered from the fact I didn't plan it all out at the start.

Fix it

Fix it
Tipped away at this for a while and it has reached the point where doing anything to it probably wont change it for the better.  This evolved from taking one of the earlier images and doing some cutting,  pasting and arranging.

Bunny in a basket

Bunny in a basket
Worked om this one in between the last set of studies. I suppose it is a little bit seasonal with the bunny and sheep.

Maintenance

Maintenance

Been tipping away at this for a while.  I am pretty sure this started out as a doodle as it carried a landscape reference in the filename. I cant remember where the earlier versions are to show - might find them and update the post when I do.

El Pescador- After Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida

El Pescador-  After Joaquin Sorolla y Bastida
Most of the work I have seen of Sorolla have been beaches with boats people and animals.  This portrait came up at auction recently.  A great balance of refinement and painterly strokes. Was priced between $30-$50,000.
Did a quick study to explore.

Hellelil and Hildebrand -The Meeting on the Turret Stairs

For the day thats in it.  Voted Irelands favourite painting by Frederic William Burton. It is held by the National Gallery of Ireland. Amazingly this is a watercolour.  The colour has been preserved by limiting the painting exposure to light.

Safe Harbour

Safe Harbour

I used some photo bashing to start this off.  I worked it so much  that very little of it is left.  Feels a bit random.

Aerial Steampunk Warrior

Aerial Steampunk Warrior
Worked on this for the Outcast Odyssey on deviant art.  This one forced me to spend a little more time working on the image.  I think I pushed myself further with this one but looking at the other entries have a long way to go.  Working to a deadline has made me think about my process and have a few ideas I would like to put int practice for the next one.

Redemption

Redemption
The past 4-6 weeks I have ended up with a number of personal works in various stated of unfinished.  I have tried to wok sequentially with no more than 2 works open at the same time so this is something new.  Don't think it is such a bad thing but I hope to get some more to a finish.  This is first of this batch.

Mountain 29DEC14

Mountain 29DEC14
A quick sketch of the mountain I can see from my window.  A light dusting of snow on it on that day (did not last).  Into 2015 and a  happy new year to you.  Coincidentally this is post number 501 on this blog.  Noticed quite a few folks have migrated to tumblr but I will hold fast here for now.

Here's to a good year for all of us.!

Long time since I practiced a digital still life. A seasonal subject.  This was done with just the monitor for light.

Big Bear Game Art

I started creating a series of promotional art for a ficticious game.  This was to practice going through the design process.  I have foun...
