'Jude Law He is the Law' Bloodsports 9
Here is the final image submitted for Bloodsports 9. Below are some of the studies it does not include the Remington copy.

I had the basic image down very quickly but then stalled and fussed with the lighting.

Masters Study no 3 - landscape

After ? Landscape Study
I completed this landscape study following Sam Carr declaring master studies week.  A lot of peoples efforts got posted on Concept Art.   Unfortunately I could not find who the artist was for this one.  Still a master in my books.  Maybe someone could tell me?  I liked the mood set up with the light and colour.

After Remington - Aiding A Comrade

After Remington Aiding A Comrade
After Remington - Aiding A Comrade

Following Sam Carrs call to do a master study  on the Crimson Daggers Thread on Concept Art .  I had a go at this Fredrick Remington.  This would be a study and I could apply whatever I could to the image I was working on for the bloodsports challenge which was western themed.  The original is found on the Google art project here.  I had the pleasure of vising this museum a few years back.  Had not seen any of Remingtons art before but it did jump out at me then.

Bloodsports 9 comps

Bloodsports 9 comps

Bloodsports 9 comps

Keeping on trucking with bloodsports 9.  I did some thumbnails.  I have to say I have only used these since starting bloodsports challenges.  This is the first time I really got something out of them - played around with the elements to find something that might work.  When I had figured out what might work i did try to put some colour in there.  As you will see the whole thing drifted from this but I had a solid starting point.

3:10 to Yuma movie still Photoshop study

3:10 to Yuma movie still Photoshop study
3:10 to Yuma Movie still Photoshop study

Having decided to do a western theme for the Bloodsports 9 challenge I knew I needed to do some western content study.  I did this one as it had both horses and western characters.  Both part thing I wanted to include.  This took about 4 hours.  I used just 3 different brushes. By the way this movie was a remake and one of the rare occasions when the remake was as least as good or  better than the original.

Bloodsports 9

I am not going to drop out at this point so On we go to Bloodsports 9.  Of the options offered I am going to keep with the characters primarily to get practice drawing and rendering human form.  So a toss up between Jude Law or Talahassee James.  I went with Jude Law.  As all of the options had a western vibe about them I went with a Western Jude Law.

Compositional studies - Bloodsports 8

Comps for Bloodsports 8
This is a summary of the work done to prepare composition.  I pretty much threw out the first couple straight away (back turned) and went with the Rembrandt composition .  I also tried to keep the same colour pallet.

Face study-after Rembrandt

After Rembrandt - Photoshop study
after rembrandt

I had seen this image recently and I had hit on the idea of having the Maxx Marnsden character as a bit despondent.  This image is all about that - regret and sadness.  I wanted to do the face study to capture that.

Still Here

A year since my last post here but that does not mean I have forgotten.  I stop by from time to time and this still remains the most compr...
